BEHRAMKALE (ASSOS)
The beginnings of a city in Assos came before the
first millennium B.C. Later, an Ionian
colony from Lesbos settled here. Aristotle taught
here for three years. Behramkale is a
picturesque seaside town to the north of Izmir, by
the Edremit Bay in the north
Aegean. Its history goes back to the 8th century
B.C. A nice example of ''Doric'' style
columns is seen in Behramkale's Athena Temple and
the city walls are in very good
condition. Possible to see lookout towers, the
theater, gymnasium and agora.
