Information
about Bolu, Turkey

Abant Lake
Bolu is approximately 200 km from Istanbul and is
famous for its verdant black pine and scots pine
trees forests (also oak, willow, hazelnut trees) and
hot springs. Lake Abant is located about 40 km from
Bolu center and is at an altitude of around 1320
meters. The lake is a fresh water lake with an area
of about 1.28 square kilometers formed as a result
of a great landslide. The lake is under
environmental protection as there is a special
species of brook trout called Salmo trutta abanticus,
but you may fish in the lake for a fee. The forests
around the lake offer an ideal habitat for deer and
other wildlife. Another place of interest in the
Bolu/Abant area is the Yedigoller (Seven Lakes)
National Park, and Golcuk, an artificial lake 11 kms
south of this. You may also visit Kartalkaya in the
Koroglu Mountains which is a winter ski resort in
Turkey, but also beautiful in the summer. 53
kilometers from Bolu is a place called Konuralp,
which was an ancient city, where you can see Roman
and Byzantine art and ruins.
