Sacred
House Hotel in Urgup, Cappadocia is a place
like a fairy tale that combines Byzantine
and Medieval theme with the ancient history
of central Anatolia. Sacred House is tucked
away on a narrow street in the old part of
Urgup and there is no sign to indicate the
hotel as they do not welcome door
custormers. The stately old stone house is
over 250 years old and features ornate stone
work on the facade, a closed courtyard with
stone steps to the upper gallery. Enjoy the
pleasant background music in the courtyard
from the oriental sitting area and which
features some very old art and Armenian
inscriptions. Upstairs there is a charming
sitting room and reception with a small
terrace that has a view of the rock
formations and Temenni Hill. In the winter
you can sit and have a drink by the warm
hearth.
Sacred house has only ten special concept
rooms each with a feel and color scheme of
its own that can allow you to experience
Cappadocia in a very different way. Although
the décor is antique, the facilities are
ultra modern and your cave is a luxury nest.
This boutique hotel has more to offer than
you can imagine. There is a romantic
fireplace in five of the seven rooms. All
rooms have a private bathroom with your own
Jacuzzi. Candles are supplied in ornate
holders and you will have complimentary
cherry liqueur in a crystal bottle waiting
for you in the room. All rooms feature a
mini bar which is hidden in a cupboard in
the wall, bathrooms with Jacuzzi.

Anka’s Lair is a medieval room which is
carved into the living rock. The antique
brass bed is covered with a special
bedspread with the material designed and
woven for the movie “Troy.” The arched
bathroom with hand-made commode has a
Jacuzzi. Other accents include wardrobe,
antique ceiling illumination and other
special objects in the room.
Chevalier is a room with a high arched
ceiling, antique brass bed and special
bed-cover. There is an antique wardrobe, a
fireplace and an old radio, which broadcasts
music. The large bathroom has a Jacuzzi.
Old Chapel is a room partly carved out of
the rock and partly built of the natural
stone with an arched ceiling. It was
originally the chapel of the mansion and has
been visited by his excellency Bartalomeos
the Greek Orthodox Patriarch and Mutaphyan.
The gifts from these visitors are exhibited
in a special section of the room and the
theme is Christian with icons and other
religious works displayed in illuminated
niches. Includes toilet with Jacuzzi.
Roof of Antique Tiles is an arched room
decorated with parts of antique porcelain
stoves embedded in the stone walls. Antique
pieces of brass embellish the wooden bed
with special bedspread. The toilet with
Jacuzzi is in an arched stone room with warm
wooden floors.
Deep Forest is a comforting guest room with
a soothing green color theme. It features a
wardrobe, fireplace and forest-like
decoration. This room has a more modern
theme.
The Full Moon Suite is very special and has
an arched room and a fireplace decorated
with old porcelain, a large bathroom with
Jacuzzi that is decorated with antiques.
The Blue Room has a view of the mountain and
features cool blues and a wood ceiling with
a charming wooden bed and toilet with
Jacuzzi.
Breakfast is served in the hotel, but you
may also order a special dinner meal and
there are some interesting choices with
Greek, Armenian and Ottoman cuisine which
are served in an authentically medieval
atmosphere with real old silverware, silver
chandeliers and heavy wood chevalier tables
in an underground cave. Tea time with
freshly made cake is complimentary. |
