Information about Dogubayazit (Dogubeyazit), Turkey
Dogubayazit, which is the eastern gate of Turkey and located near Mount Agri (Mt. Ararat), hosted various tribes and civilizations during history such as the Urartians, Assyrians, Medes, Persians, Romans and Byzantines.
Ishak Pasha Palace is located 5km east of Dogubayazit and is more of a complex than a mere palace. The palace, which was built on a hill at the side of a mountain, is the last large monumental structure of the Ottoman Empire in the "Lale Devri" or "Tulip Period". It is one of the most distinguished and magnificent examples of the 18th century Ottoman architecture and is very valuable in terms of art history. According to the top of the door inscription of the Harem Section it was constructed in 1784. As the palace was built in an age when the castles ceased to be special and firearms were developed and were abundantly available its defense towards the hills on the east is weak. Its main gate is the weakest point in that respect. The structure of the main gate is no different than those seen in the palaces built in Istanbul and elsewhere in Anatolia and has a neat stone workmanship and carving.
Mount Agri (Ararat), which is not only Turkey's but also Europe's highest peak with a height of 5137 m, is one of the volcanic mountains, which has the highest potential in connection with mountaineering tourism. The mountain has not only easy routes for amateur mountaineers to climb easily, but also it has difficult routes for professionals.
Mount Ararat, which drew attention of wanderers, scientists and tribes for centuries, is a mount that mostly has been a subject of folk songs, legends, researches and mythology in our country and in the world. For centuries, it is said that the ship in which Noah and his accompanies were aboard, landed on Mount Agri when the waters receded after Noah's Flood.
