9:30 departure from hotel in Cappadocia. Visit
the Derinkuyu Underground City and descend
through passages and tunnels, eight levels
(55m) underground. See amazing "millstone"
defense doors, wineries and rooms carved from
the rock. Ihlara Valley - walk in the most
scenic part of this canyon flanked by sheer
rock walls. Visit unusual frescoed rock
churches and have lunch next to the Melendez
River in the village of Belisirma (ancient
Peristrema). Continue to Selime - a village of
rock cones below a mesa. Climb up to the two-story
colonnaded church and monastery, kitchens,
"pekmez house" and camel tunnel all carved
into the rock. Agzikarahan Caravanserai
- a stop on the Old Silk Road to see this
marvelous example of 13c Seljuk architecture.

CAPPADOCIA - GOREME OPEN AIR MUSEUM (1 DAY) |

9:30 departure from your hotel in
Cappadocia. Goreme Open Air Museum - see
the best examples of Byzantine frescoes in
rock-cut churches from the10th to the 13th
centuries. Visit Pasabagi for a walk in
the vineyards among strange multiple "mushroom-capped"
fairy chimneys and continue to Avanos,
which has been a center of terra cotta
work since 3000 BC. See a pottery
demonstration using the ancient kick-wheel
technique. Zelve Open Air Museum -
troglodyte houses cut high up in the rock
face, churches, mosque and tunnel passage
between valleys. Devrent - natural rock
formations with fantastic shapes. Uchisar
Village - climb the rock citadel for an
extensive panoramic view of the valleys.
Possible visit to Urgup winery to sample
the earthy volcanic Cappadocian wines or
see the famous rock-capped fairy chimneys,
symbol of Cappadocia. L.

CAPPADOCIA - RED AND ROSE VALLEYS (1 DAY) |

We visit the old Christian village of Cavusin,
which is both a living town, and a Ghost town
filled abandoned Greek houses, clinging to the
hillside. Cavusin has one of the oldest
churches in Cappadocia. We then walk in Red
Valley or Rose Valley, where you will see rock
formations with beautiful colors produced by
mineral deposits and unusual rock-cut churches.
Visit Kaymakli Underground City - more to
explore in this underground city of mazes and
tunnels. The tour ends with a visit to
Ortahisar Village and its natural rock citadel.

CAPPADOCIA - SOGANLI VALLEY (1 DAY) |

chimneys and the old village of Mustafapasa
and Cemil Valley.We take a walk through
Soganli Valley, which is one of the most
attractive and unspoiled places in Cappadocia,
with its unique fairytale churches and
dovecotes (pigeon houses) cut in the rock.
View of Mt. Erciyes (3916m), which is the
highest mountain in the area. Photo stop of
Sahinefendi Village and vast gorge. Taskinpasa
Village with its Kahramanian mosque, and
village life. Watch for villagers baking fresh
bread in outdoor ovens. Possible visit to
