A stay in the Imaret Hotel, in Kavala, Greece, is an experience of a lifetime. Imaret is housed in a unique historical building, constructed in 1881 by Mohamed Ali Pasha (Egyptian viceroy for the Ottoman Empire at the time) as a gift to his birthplace Kavala. "Imaret" actually means House of Hospitality. The domes, archways and courtyards of the magical Imaret Hotel originally housed an Islamic school and religious complex providing support to the community.
More than a century later, the difficult and painstaking process of restoration was begun but took years to complete. Imaret, restored to its original glory, opened in July 2004 as a luxury hotel, providing its guests relaxed comfort in an exquisite historical setting. Imaret is the perfect hotel for a romantic getaway or a relaxing stay on your way to/from Istanbul, Athens or to many northern Aegean islands. Imaret is a member of the Historic Hotels of Europe.
Imaret features only 30 rooms and suites, all tastefully decorated with private facilities, according to the original Ottoman Baroque architecture of the property. Some rooms overlook the tranquil inner courtyard or one of the Imaret's semi-private gardens, whereas other rooms have views of Kavala's colorful harbor. Enjoy the soothing waters of the underground pool, which was once the water cistern of the complex. Take a trip back in time in the fully restored Turkish bath. Dine on delicious gourmet Mediterranean cuisine made from fresh local ingredients in the terrace restaurant while enjoying panoramic views of Kavala and its surrounding bay.
