Information about Koycegiz, Turkey

Koycegiz is a nice little town on the edge of a large
lake located between the towns of Mugla and Fethiye
in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. The town is
peaceful, with few tourists and no large hotels.
There are cafes and restaurants, especially along
the edge of the lake, and you can see some old Greek
houses. The area is famous for various types of
fish, and the blue crab that are found here.
Koycegiz and reed covered banks around the lake is a
paradise for birds. There are at least 180 different
species. It is also the home of the giant Trionix
Turtle. The fresh water of this lake meets the salt
water of the Mediterranean creating a rich habitat
for many types of animals. Nearby beaches include
Sarigerme Beach, Iztuzu Beach, which is home of the
Caretta Caretta Turtle and has fine sand and also
Ekincik Beach, which is a beautiful unspoiled
natural area.. Enjoy a mudbath and a thermal bath at
the Sultaniye Thermal springs, in a totally natural
setting on the west side of the lake. The waters
help heal rheumatism, skin disorders, help
circulation and heart problems among many other
positive effects.

Also in the area are the beautiful Koycegiz
Waterfalls with their own natural swimming pool and
the Delta of Dalyan with Iztuzu beach, the ancient
site of Caunos and the Lycian Necropolis with rock
tombs carved into the face of the cliff. It is
possible to take a nice boat tour on the lake to see
the mudbaths, thermal, Caunos and Iztuzu or explore
a maze of channels around the Dalyan Delta.
