DAY 1: (FRI) ARRIVAL
Arrival in Istanbul. Look for a sign with your name and transfer to your hotel.  Overnight in Istanbul.
DAY 2: (SAT) ISTANBUL OLD CITY CLASSICS AND HIGHLIGHTS
8:00 – 8:45 Departure from your hotel. We will first visit the Hippodrome, a stadium for chariot races and other events in Byzantine times and also see the Serpent Pillar from Delphi and the Egyptian Obelisk. We continue to the Blue Mosque, which was built in the 17th century and is the only imperial mosque with 6 minarets. We also see the ornate German fountain which was a gift of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Finally we see the magnificent Saint Sophia (Haghia Sofia) which was built by the emperor Justinian in the 6th century A.D and stands over much older remains of a church, which can still be seen. We will see both levels of the former church with intricate mosaics of biblical scenes and the Byzantine emperors and empresses, then on to the Grand Bazaar, which has over 4000 shops full of treasures where you will see a demonstration of Turkish handicrafts. We will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and then explore the Topkapi Palace including four courtyards. It was the home of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th-19th centuries A.D. We see the Imperial Treasury with the famous Spoonmaker Diamond. Also the Baghdad Kiosk, Audience Hall and Divan. We will also have a view of the Haghia Irene Church from outside. (Harem section is optional and due an extra entry fee). We continue to the Caferaga Medrese which was designed by the architect Sinan and built in the 16th century, now used as a learning center for traditional Turkish arts. We will also take a stroll down Sogukcesme Street with its cobblestones and charming Ottoman Houses. B. DAY 3: (SUN) ISTANBUL – ANKARA – CAPPADOCIA
Transfer to the Istanbul airport between 05:00 – 06:00 for morning flight to Ankara. Upon arrival you will be picked up from the Ankara airport. The tour starts with the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, which is located in a restored bazaar. The museum has the most unique and priceless collection of artifacts dating back to the prehistoric era. Then we will continue with the Mausoleum of Ataturk, which serves as a tribute to the founder of modern Turkey. We will then begin our drive to Cappadocia. Overnight in Cappadocia. L.D
DAY 4: (MON) CAPPADOCIA
Today we explore Cappadocia with the underground city of Kaymakli and the see the natural Citadel of Uchisar. We will then visit the Goreme Valley and the Open Air Museum featuring ancient churches with colorful frescoes, which are hewn from the rock. The next stop is Pasabagi Valley (Zelve region), with its vineyards, volcanic cones and monk’s dwellings. We will then visit the famous pottery center of Avanos. Overnight in Cappadocia. B.L.D.
DAY 5: (TUE) CAPPADOCIA – KONYA – PAMUKKALE
We will depart early in the morning for Konya, visiting the 13th century Seljuk caravansary of Sultanhani. The next stop will be Konya with the Mevlana Museum. Home of the famous “Whirling Dervishes. Arrive in Pamukkale and overnight in Pamukkale. B.L.D.
DAY 6: (WED) PAMUKKALE – APHRODISIAS – KUSADASI
In the morning visit the ancient site of Hierapolis, including Theater, Apollo Temple and Necropolis, then the Calcium Terraces of Pamukkale. Today we will also visit the Greco-Roman site of Aphrodisias with the Museum, Temple of Aphrodite, the Theater, the Stadium, the Agora, Hadrian’s Baths and the Odeon. Continue to Kusadasi through the Meander Valley and overnight in Kusadasi. B.L.D.
DAY 7: (THU) EPHESUS – HOUSE OF VIRGIN MARY – BASILICA OF ST JOHN
Today we will visit the House of Virgin Mary, then Ephesus with the Library of Celsius, temple of Hadrian, agora and fantastic Greco-Roman theater and the Basilica of St. John. Overnight in Kusadasi. B.L.D.
DAY 8: (FRI) KUSADASI – PERGAMON AESCLEPION – TROY – CANAKKALE
Today we will visit the Asclepion of Pergamon, which was a famous center of healing in the ancient world. Galen, who originated from Pergamon and became the most famous doctor of his time, treated his patients here. Finally we drive to Troy, the legendary city of Homer, which has nine principal levels of occupation covering a period of 3000 years. Dinner and overnight in Canakkale.  B.L.D.
DAY 9: (SAT) CANAKKALE – ISTANBUL
After breakfast we will begin the drive to Istanbul. We will cross the Dardanelles by ferry and visit the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli. Return to Istanbul and overnight in Istanbul. B.
DAY 10: (SUN) DEPARTURE
Transfer to airport for departure. (B).

The classical 10 Day Turkey tour is a fast paced moderately priced tour of western Turkey that covers the major sites of interest starting from Istanbul, you fly to Ankara and visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations where the oldest civilizations in Turkey are explained. You can see the model of a house in Catalhoyuk and amazing finds from ancient times. After visiting this capital of Turkey full of history, continue to Cappadocia which is a wonder of nature with its interesting and unusual rock formations, rock-cut houses and ancient churches and monasteries. No visit to Turkey is complete without a visit to Cappadocia. It is possible to take a balloon tour (optional) over the valleys and rock formations of Cappadocia. Continue overland to Konya, the city of Mevlana and the order of the Whirling Dervishes. We visit Pamukkale and the calcium terraces, the ancient site of Hierapolis and Aphrodisias, and then a special visit to Ephesus, the House of Virgin Mary and Church of St John continuing to the lofty acropolis of Pergamon, Troy the city of myth, Gallipoli and back to Istanbul.

The tour is conducted by comfortable non-smoking minivan, midi-van or coach with A/C with separate professional guide and driver. The number of passengers on this tour will vary and although a midi-bus is normally used if the group becomes larger a coach is also possible. The Classic western Turkey tour is also conducted in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Normally English speaking tour participants are given their own guide, but a multilingual guide may also be used. Your guide is certified by the Ministry of Culture. This is a full-service escorted tour with entry fees to the sights as mentioned but you will have a different guide in Istanbul. There are no expensive hidden extras.

Hotels are a mix of nice quality boutique or 3/4/5 star hotels (mostly 4 star hotels), all with private facilities, heating and A/C. All Istanbul hotels are located in convenient locations of the historical district. Most meals are included in this tour. Breakfasts are taken in the hotel, lunches in local restaurants, dinners in hotels.

This tour departs nearly every Friday starting mid-March until the end of October and sometimes later. Departures around Christmas and New Year time are also possible, so please contact us for more information.
